In natural settings, most mosquito species have a “resting” behavior because they are not active during the day. As a result of this behavior, they look for dark and cool daytime resting locations such as caves, tree cavities, and vegetation. Taking advantage of this behavior, the Resting Mosquito Trap provides an artificial resting location which allows for the efficient collection of blood-engorged mosquitoes.
Steps for Use:
- Place the trap open and on its side in a cool, shaded area and early in the morning. Adult females will rest in the dark trap.
2. When ready for collection, simply turn the trap open side up, place the lid with collection container on top of the trap.
3. Press down to drive the air into the collection cup. Adult females will be funneled into the collection container which then can be removed for transpiration. Alternatively, aspirate out the specimens with a Vacuum Insect Aspirator.
