Description
Beating Sheets
Ecology Supplies Beating Sheets are made with sturdy, light colored canvas, which increases the visibility of insects and makes it durable for field work. This Beating Tray is held open with two wooden frame pieces that are fastened with a metal pivot. The frame collapses for easy travel and the sheet can be folded up and replaced as needed. Pockets in the corners of the sheet allows for secure placement of the wooden frame.
Beating sheets are a classic and simple method for insect collecting. Many insects that inhabit trees, bushes, and other vegetation are often difficult to spot by visual observation. However, they can be easily collecting by using a Beat Sheet, especially non-flying and slower-moving insects that are easily stunned. Simply hold the sheet below and knock/shake a branch to dislodge specimens onto the sheet. Then, quickly collect with forceps or aspirate the specimens that fall onto the Beating Tray before they escape.
Dimensions: 28″ (71 cm) square and 37″ (94cm) long when collapsed.
