General Product Information – Flight Interception Trap

Flight interception traps (aka FIT) are simply made up of a barrier that insects fly into and then fall into a container filled with liquid and preservative. These traps can be placed across common insect flight paths (across trails, by forest edges, or along waterways) and is great for collecting Hymenoptera, Diptera, and Coleoptera.

Key features:

Site Selection

1. Choose a location along common insect flight paths (ex: riparian corridors, forest trails, forest edges, etc.).
2. Suspend the trap vertically using ropes provided. Position the trap so that it is ~1 ft above the ground. Use additional stakes and lines to secure the trough to prevent swinging from wind.
3. Position the trap perpendicular to the flight path.
